National LGBT+ Police Conference : Cardiff : Friday 23rd August 2019
Date: Tuesday 20th August 2019

The National LGBT Conference took place in Cardiff on 23rd August 2019 in Cardiff at the Royal Welsh School of Music and Drama.

Delegates from all 43 Police forces as well as delegates from Police Scotland and Northern Ireland attended.

The conference was opened by Matt Jukes who is the Chief Constable of South Wales Police and the co-Chair of the National LGBT Police Network Tracey  O Hara.

  • Keynote Speakers :

Nick Lewis of Umbrella  Cymru  - He is the director of Umbrella  which provides gender and sexual diversity support  to people  across Wales.

Wayne Chance- McKay – Who is a retired ACC Metropolitan police officer who talked candidly about his struggles with alcohol, mental health and how he has “ Come out the other side “.

Lisa Van Os of MIND – She spoke of her work supporting Blue Light  staff with mental Health and Wellbeing issues .She was joined by Inspector Amanda Williams who is the mental health lead for Gwent Police.

Pete Mercer – STONEWALL  - Who  is the  Head of Public Sector memberships programme.


  • Workshops ;

Katie Fox – “ Minority within a minority” She works  directly with Public and private sector organisations to understand their business  and provide tailored advice.

Anna Morgan – “ Challenging perceptions”  She is the director of Red Shiny Apple. Anna has worked extensively across wales supporting organisations to meet their duties in relation to the equalities act 2010.

Kathryn Wall/Joanna Rhydderch “ Creating the Environment” Both are wellbeing officers  at Gwent Police . They explore the area of OSCAR KILO Framework by asking you to reflect  on the work environment in your force.
